About Support Groups
Support groups are the key to long term success after surgery. After a major surgery, it is good to know that you always have someone who has been there and knows what you are going through. People who are contemplating surgery or nearing their surgery date are always welcome and encouraged to attend to learn from post op patients, hear problems and solutions, and ask questions. Post op patients should seek support groups because help, praise, encouragement, education is essential to “stay on track” with the new lifestyle after surgery. Topics covered in support groups include nutrition, behavioral changes, mental adjustment, and exercise.
Pre op Support Group: Every patient needs to attend at least one support group before surgery to ask questions, observe, and listen to the experiences of the people who have had bariatric surgery. Dr. Keith and Dr. Nelson discuss the support group experience with the patient during the pre op discussion.
Post Op Support Groups: RNY support group is located at Norman Region HealthPlex. Meetings are every 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month from 6:00pm - 7:00pm. For more information or to register for support group call 405-360-7100.
